The Titanic warning spreads
Key points:
- The NYSE and the Nasdaq are firing Titanic warnings together.
- Historically, the average path over the following weeks has run below ordinary market performance.
- Defensives have historically beaten the same event's S&P 500, their edge extended to three months, and they are already leading this episode.
The warning has spread to both exchanges
Earlier this month, we discussed the persistent Titanic warning on the Nasdaq. The NYSE is now firing as well, and the warning's coverage has widened.
Adding the daily NYSE and Nasdaq Titanic flags and averaging them over five sessions gauges how concentrated the warning has become. Each exchange contributes 1 per firing day, so the combined reading tops out at 2. By October 12 it had reached 2, meaning both exchanges fired on each of the past five sessions.

This study covers the two exchanges firing together.
